Tomorrow marks the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in New York City in which 146 young women and teenaged girls were killed, many of them holding hands and leaping to their deaths from the roaring fire because doors were locked.

It horrified New York City, the nation, and led to the foundation of the modern US Labor Movement that’s so vilified today by the U.S. right wing and Republicans.

If you want to know why we need unions, watch the HBO documentary “Triangle: Remembering The Fire”  tomorrow, March 25th

Or talk to a public worker in Wisconsin.

Or talk to my sister the school teacher who legally can’t organize and collectively bargin in the “Republic of Texas” as Governor Rick Perry prepares to lay off thousands of school teachers across Texas.
