Greg LeMond. Serious Badass.
Today is the 25th Anniversary of Greg LeMond becoming the first American to put on the Tour de France’s Maillot Jaune leader’s jersey. Lemond did it on stage 17 (Gap - Le Granon video highlights) and took it from his La Vie Claire teammate “The Badger” Benard Hinault during that historic #epic tour that included intrigue, cultural and generational differences, unexpected attacks, deception, and oh yeah bike racing. And that was just LeMond’s team!
Check out this no holds barred LeMond interview on the Tour and Hinault (FF to 12:20) a couple of stages before Paris where he became the first Amercian to win the Tour de France.
LeMond’s 1989 Tour de France comeback over the late, great Laurent Fignon is why I picked up a bike.
