Alex Chilton was my first concert as a kid (since I grew up in memphis). Where is this picture from? I thought they were all gone form Memphis.

The pic is from here in Austin, Texas. It’s the name of a…wait for it…bingo hall in north Austin (near intersection of 183 & I-35 if you are ever here). It’s a great sign.
In the 80s, I saw The Replacements play “Alex Chilton” when they released “Pleased To Meet Me” on one of their “on” nights. It was an epic show. Years later I saw Alex Chilton play in a small divey blues bar in KC (The Grand Emporium). The show was uneven but when he played “September Girls,” whoa. A couple of weeks after Alex passed in 2010, I saw Wilco in NJ finish a show with “Thank You My Friends” and “In The Streets.” They hit the all the harmonies and it was perfection.
