As usual, beautifully shot cycling video from Rapha as a promo for their new cycling gear (which is dope) and the Tour of California.
I have to say I’m way more geeked up for the Giro because well…it’s da Giro…but I will follow the Tour of Cali.
As an aside, I was lucky to very briefly meet Tim Johnson @timjohnsoncx this Spring at an NYC Velo event. He seemed like a nice, down to earth guy which is always a good quality for the US National CX Champion.
Money quote: “With a road team, there’s a whole lot less having fun.”

I wanted to do the 2011 Gentlemen’s Race (would’ve been ride for me) because it was nearby (2 hours from NYC) but I had major parental duties and was out of town that weekend (took Los Bebes to Disney World). Nice to see some of the NYC area teams made it.
Next year or maybe #Rapha could do another one in the fall…with a cyclocross theme?

Will this by your first cyclocross season? I have no idea where to start, since I’ve never done it before. Where do they even race? Any tips on sites to check out for NY cyclocross info?
ridebyshooting: Yup - this will be my first #CX season just like it’s my first road racing season…if you can call what I do “racing.” It’s more like #slaughterfest for me. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?
RE: Cyclocross in the NYC area - here’s what I know: Races near NYC start in October/November and are located in NJ and Long Island where there are series - not sure of their names (LI Cyclocross?).
The one NYC based CX race is the Staten Island CX (SICX). I went last year and it was tremendous fun. Can’t wait to “race” in it. I’ve talked to several bike shop CX racers about training. One shop has clandestine CX training/classes in Central Park (this was before the NYPD crackdown). Another shop racer told me to ride in the loop in Prospect Park and hop in and out of the dirt runner path…both ideas are sketchy.
I’m gonna ask the guys at NYCVelo for CX advice as the season approaches.
Right now planning on ZipCaring it to some area races. Let me know if you’re interested in training and/or sharing a car to races . I’ll let you know as I hear more info.
Anyone else in the Tumblr-verse know more details about NYC area Cyclocross? Would love to hear more details.
