So this arrived yesterday…Rapha Performance Skincare product. Woot! The soap smells incredible (da Mrs. said it smelled “masculine” which works) & I can’t wait to try everything out. Da packaging is dope to boot and I dream of climbing Ventoux some day so I was an easy mark.
OK - I know the douchebaggery quotient is borderline high with Rapha’s “slightly” overpriced products.
But I have to say Rapha won me over this Summer with their NYC pop-up Cycle Club/Shop in the East Village. Kudos to them & Mike Spriggs @GageDesoto welcometothebroadcast.com for a cool, geeky cycling vibe.
Plus Rapha’s ongoing cycling themed branded content (videos, journals, and photos) has always slayed me. I know. I know. I know. It’s pretentious…but the Dolomites!! Back-country gravel road rides!! The moustaches!! The sheer epic-ness!!
So with free shipping offer I was willing to part w/$45 to try it. Mad Alchemy Embrocation & DZNutz taint cream (both of which I LOVE and are my “go to” products de jour) are both around $20 a pop so the Rapha product is not out of line with other cycling skincare products.
BTW…click here for a proper, more literate review of the product by the always smart @Cycleboredom.
Now I just need to find an “Epic” enough Winter ride worthy of testing it out. Regular base mile laps in Prospect Park doesn’t cut it…snowy Brooklyn-9W-Brooklyn beckons!! Maybe a punishing upper 20s F Bear Mountain century post snow storm ride is worthy…Who’s in? Ha!

Red Hook Criterium No. 4 - Brooklyn 2011

The Red Hook Criterium is an unsanctioned bicycle race through a desolate post-industrial area of Brooklyn. Track bikes are mandatory and the field consists of elite level roadies, bike messengers, and urban cyclists. The race distance is 20 laps around a .75 mile circuit which features several hairpin turns, a technical chicane, a cobblestone stretch, and a sprint finish. The Red Hook Criterium has developed a new and unique style of cycling event which combines the underground art of street racing with the intensity of high level competition in a fun spectator friendly atmosphere.

This year’s Red Hook Criterium is March 26, 2011 at 11pm. Racers can register starting noon on March 7. Check out cool pixs from last year. Can’t wait.

Ugh. Must be exhausted by the time he’s done.

I’ve seen it in a bunch of places today, but then forgot to snag it from anywhere. So for everyone who sent it to me, thanks!

Harmony Korine is one of my favorites. His new film with Die Antwoord is fucking cool. Don’t think so much.

Watch. See.

More ridiculous fun with the Die Antwoord “art project.”

But how do you really resist the urge to brake? If I hadn’t braked back in May, I would have probably gotten out of my fishtail with the Bob trailer and not ended up knocked out and with a broken wrist. But the instinct… the instinct is to brake!

Via twitter

After a week single track in Austin, Tx, this roadie has bumps and ugly bruises all over his body because I suck at single track (fact) and because I kept using my brakes when I should’ve just let the bike go. I got it after a while.

Just like in road cycling, speed is good. Brakes are bad!
