John
The thing that always gets me about John Lennon being killed 30 years ago today is not that he was my favorite Beatle. Or that he wrote most of my favorite Beatles songs. Or that he was a peace activist. Or that he wrote brilliant post-Beatles songs like “Imagine” or “Give Peace A Chance.” Or that he and Yoko Ono started a brilliant and beautiful ad campaign “War Is Over…If You Want It” (better the overwhelming majority of Madison Avenue drivel through the years). Or that he was one of my favorite New Yorkers.
The thing that always gets me - even more so now as a Dad myself - is that he was gunned down at a time when he had his life together creatively and was busy being a “house-husband” Dad to his young son. In a stupid, insane instant, all that was taken away. And that’s a pity.

Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new documentary on the quiet Beatle (side note- George was called ‘the quiet Beatle’ because when they landed at JFK in 1964, he had a sore throat and didn’t talk much during the press conference. Though, as we’ll probably see in this doc, George was actually quite vocal).

Sir Paul McCartney - Maybe I’m Amazed
Happy 70th Birthday Sir Paul!
When I was my kids’ age in the 70s, Wings was massive. Their concerts sold out in minutes in pre-internet days. Songs like “Silly Love Songs” and “Let Them In” were on the radio every 30 minutes everywhere we went. I actually got sick of them even though I really liked them.
Anyways, The Beatles and Wings music have been part of my life since I was toddler and are now a part of my kids musical life too.
I played Paul’s “Maybe I’m Amazed” at our wedding reception because it’s a perfect love song (yes I DJ’d our wedding reception).
As my Mom’s souvenir button from the 1964 concert tour said:
